Chapter 1301: Chaos (Part 1)
The levels of the pests were not too high and the lightning puppets were capable of taking care of them. Pests were practically immune to physical attacks, so the mages of Alchemy City had unleashed the angel of fear and pests to take on the Bug Angel Warriors.
Magic attacks from the Bug Angel Warriors were could weaken the pests, but the pests would simply be reduced to dust when physically attacked, which would roll on the ground for a bit before reconstituting.
Reconstituted pests were not any weaker in terms of combat capacity. All Bug Angel Warriors within the area controlled by the angel of fear were knocked out. Outside, the Bug Angel Warriors were having a hard time as well.
The pests were simply indestructible to the Bug Angel Warriors.
Saleen sighed. Alchemy City really does have a few tricks. If it had not been for the fact that his lightning puppets were capable of fighting the pests, all of the Bug Angel Warriors would have succumbed sooner or later, even without the angel of fear.
Such cases of professions restricting one another only happened to warriors at one extreme end of the spectrum. Conventional magic warriors were equipped with skills capable of taking pests.
That was not the case with the Bug Angel Warriors. All of their skills were meant to take on conventional living beings. They were able to do next to nothing.
Saleen’s lightning puppets, on the other hand, while emanating appallingly weak electricity from their bodies, were quite effective against the pests, which almost had their souls exposed. The puppets only needed to cling to the pests with their twisty arms to capture them, rendering escape impossible.
The trapped pests were thrown to Saleen, who absorbed them into his War Drum of Fear.
Grand Duke Iron Blood looked at Saleen’s drum. “How much for this thing?”
“I’m not selling.”
“Why?”
“It’s good for fighting wars. Furthermore, Imposa captured one himself. You could ask him to make one for you.”
The Grand Duke frowned. He did not need to ask Saleen if it was possible.
“It can be done. We’ll just not go to the warehouse and I won’t give him the Dissolution Scroll. Without the scroll, he’ll only be able to reach the first floor of the warehouse. There is no way he is going to get into second floor.”
“It’s not a good thing to drive a wedge between us, you know.” The Grand Duke looked displeased.
Saleen shrugged. “You can’t just let him have his way all the time. I’m the one who will craft the armor you need.”
The Grand Duke nodded slowly. Imposa was caught in a ditch and actually fighting the angel of fear up close and personal. His long tail whipped about while his six legs enabled him to zip about on the ground. The angel of fear was actually on guard against Imposa’s tail.
Saleen knew the terrifying power of the tail. “How about we go there and help him out?” Saleen suggested.
“Sure thing!” The Grand Duke had the same thought. With both of them getting there to help him, there was nothing Imposa would be able to do.
Saleen had experience facing off against angels of fear. He took out a magic staff and slowly moved forward, casting the skill stored within the staff: a Dark Blue Chant.
Control afforded by the water type skill was second only to the dark type Endless Night, but casting Endless Night would make Imposa misunderstand that Saleen was attacking him. Saleen had no control over that spell, but he had learned about Dark Blue Chant.
The Dark Blue Chant’s aura sneaked around Imposa and shrouded the angel of fear. There was no way a level 11 skill would be able to kill the level 12 angel of fear, unless the angel of fear suffered grievous injuries and significant reduction in defense.
However, the angel of fear’s movements slowed considerably. Saleen cast Thundering Shock as soon as he was done casting Dark Blue Chant.
Conventionally-speaking, it was impossible for low level professionals to intimidate high level ones, even more so in the case of angel of fear—a creature adept at soul attacks.
However, even though Saleen was not familiar with the rules of Thundering Sound skills, they possessed power of rules. The rules of Thundering Sound far exceeded the angel of fear’s level. Regardless of how weak Saleen was in comparison, the intimidation skill would work.
The angel of fear was actually intimidated by a level 11 mage!
Imposa’s mind was all blank when the Grand Duke charged from behind, his spear shining with golden glimmer. It was not sword aura, but Dragon Knight Flash—a skill unique to Dragon Knights.
The dragon spear stabbed into the mouth of that angel of fear’s abdominal face, and not even the Grand Duke was able to believe how well it worked. The probing attack actually hit that high level being and severely injured it.
Imposa stung the angel of fear indifferently with his tail. That sting injected all of the elemental poisons stored inside the metal tail into the angel of fear’s body, which almost petrified it.
The Grand Duke and Imposa attacked without giving a care. The skills seemed to be like instincts. Only the purple gold dragon seemed to be awake. It swiped its tail at its target. The protruding spikes tore at the angel of fear like a saw, bisecting it at the waist.
The angel if fear had no blood, but the dragon’s attack landed a shocking blow to it. However, the angel of fear quickly grabbed the lower half of its body and reconnected it.
The dragon shot a stream of dragon’s breath. The face of the angel of fear, whose body had just been reconnected, melted, revealing a dark crevice.
Saleen was dumbfounded. Where is the soul?
Imposa felt that it was normal. According to records on the angels of fear, they only had one soul. The angel of fear that Saleen saw in the Imperial City of the Abyss was extremely mutated. Saleen had only been able to survive due to luck. His survival had nothing to do with his powers.
His intimidation skills would not be able to stun the angel of fear before him for almost one whole second otherwise.
Level 12 angel of fear was not all that fearsome; what was fearsome was mutated ones.
Saleen was no longer in any mood to fight over it after seeing that that angel of fear only had one soul. Angels of fear with a linked soul had souls tens of times stronger.
The two souls did not only complement each other, but they threatened each other as well, so the one that Saleen captured before had really powerful souls. The angel of fear before him had only one soul, so Saleen lost interest in it.
There was simply no need to get into bad terms with Imposa over that thing.
However, Saleen did not show any of the emotions on his face. He cast a level 11 spell right after—Crimson Judgment.
It was a fire magic. The Dark Blue Chant was mainly control magic, but the Crimson Judgment made the angel’s body burn.
The angel of fear howled in rage, but the flames were triggered by the fire element in its body. If the angel of fear had not been put under control, it would have been able to halt the skill . After Saleen finished casting Crimson Judgment, he followed up with Thundering Explosion.
The angel of fear’s soul power became difficult to invoke. Crimson Judgment was in full swing.
It was a beginning spell of level 11. Saleen had no control over its process, so he added Thundering Explosion just to ensure the skill was not being evaded.
“You all will die!” That angel of fear shouted in Ancient Myers Language. Saleen was stunned for a bit before he burst out laughing. The angel of fear was actually created by Alchemy City.
He was able to tell because despite speaking Ancient Myers Language, it had a thick Qin accent.
“After you!” Imposa took out a sealing scroll at that moment. He opened it and sealed the burning angel of fear into the scroll.
Saleen’s eyes narrowed. A dragon pattern scroll. Precious indeed.
Scrolls made using dragon hide had inherent dragon patterns. When such scrolls were made into sealing equipment, it would be able to seal any target incapable of resisting, ignoring level differences.
The disregard of level difference was determined by the level of the dragon whose hide was used to make the scroll.
“Thank you,” Imposa thanked Saleen. He saw Saleen using attack skills instead of sealing ones, so he knew that Saleen intended to yield that prey to him. His request of going to the warehouse exceeded what both Saleen and the Grand Duke would be able to sustain.
For every minute they stayed in the city, more Bug Angel Warriors would be doomed.
If they had not been fighting in Alchemy City, the Bug Angel Warriors would have been able to fare better even when fighting higher intensity battles.
Imposa summoned the Iron Blood Warriors far away without pause. The 12 were specially nurtured by Imposa, their only weakness being their weak souls. As such, Imposa used skills to protect the 12 Iron Blood Warriors and did not let them fight.
Saleen calculated as he responded to Imposa’s words. It had never been heard anywhere that angel of fear could be created intentionally. If Alchemy City was capable of creating an angel of fear, then it would mean that they had found a place similar to the Imperial City of the Abyss.
Wealth was found in abundance in ancient huge cities. If Alchemy City gained access to cities like that and there were nothing like the Cemetery of Heroes within, then the place he knew barely scratched the surface of what Alchemy City truly was.
True wealth would definitely not be stored there.
Imposa explained to Saleen, “Your Highness, I need the angel of fear to treat my illness. My soul…well, you know. It is dangerous for level ten mages to do that. The Grand Duke is kind to me, and I couldn’t let anything happen to me while I work for him.”
Saleen was surprised. Imposa, who looked crazed and unbridled, actually had a softer side.
“I had to do that, or I wouldn’t be able to…” Imposa said something puzzling, before taking his huge metal cog south. Only people like him who had intricate control of mechanical equipment would be able to man alchemical equipment of such massive sizes and keep it flying close to the ground.
Imposa had strong constitution, more so than even grand swordmasters. Everywhere that the metal cog went, buildings toppled.
Saleen looked at Imposa’s monstrous silhouette and sighed. Imposa knew what was about to happen to Myers Mainland. He probably knew more and found the calamity even more unacceptable than Fycro. The alchemical madman was still a mage.
Another round of attack was launched from the Floating City: rocks were thrown down. The irritating attacks made mages from Alchemy City flustered.
When rocks fell, not even magic towers were able to resist doing nothing. The mages needed to intercept the attacks using magic, but if they did so, the mages dealing with the Bug Angel Warriors would be reduced.
