Rebirth on the Doors to the Civil Affairs Bureau - Chapter 45
Chapter 45 The Return of An An
***
Amongst the deep blue sheets, Yu Dong lazily turned her body. Her sore waist protested at her actions, causing a small sound of discomfort. As she opened her eyes, yesterday’s events came rushing back: the kisses, the sweet smiles, and Xia Feng’s warm body moving against hers.
Yu Dong took a few deep breaths.
The cotton sheets felt great against her skin and she didn’t want to move, but Yu Dong thought of Ren Xinxin, who she hadn’t seen since last year. After a while, she persevered and finally sat up.
Stretching her arms, Yu Dong was about to get out of bed when she was a note on the bedside table.
Yu Dong picked it up and started to read.
( Dong Dong, I’ve moved all your things, you’re not allowed to sleep anywhere but in this room from now on. )
Such an overbearing tone, Yu Dong couldn’t help but chuckle.
Taking a shirt of Xia Feng’s, Yu Dong headed to the bathroom. The huge mirror reflected the red and purple traces littered across her white skin. Yu Dong reached to touch one, and couldn’t help but recall Xia Feng’s passionate actions last night.
Yu Dong shook her head vigorously. Seeing such an erotic sight so early in the morning, are all married women like this?
Yu Dong immediately turned to take a shower and calm down, but when she saw the wall from last night, she froze. She remembered the cold touch of the wall, greatly contrasting with the scorching heat Xia Feng’s hands left across her body. Yu Dong had to swear: “That…how can that person…he’s usually not like that.”
Covering her red face, Yu Dong tried to clear her head. Going back to the sink, she cooled her face. After this, she happened to notice the two toothbrushes placed side by side and her own cosmetics diligently placed around the mirror. Yu Dong couldn’t help but smile at this.
Xia Feng transferred her toothbrushes and cosmetics but didn’t bring any of her clothes, so after washing, Yu Dong had to walk out of the bedroom to change.
Passing the kitchen door, she noticed two covered plates and another note on the table.
( There’s rice porridge in the stove, remember to eat it! Also, I might be back late tonight, so don’t wait for me. )
Yu Dong raised an eyebrow and uncovered the plates: inside were two pickled dishes.
“Coming home late on the first day, does he think I’ll forgive him if he makes breakfast?”
Yu Dong served herself a bowl of the porridge. When she was halfway done, she suddenly heard her phone ringing. With a groan, Yu Dong rushed to the living room to find out where she threw her phone.
Finally finding it under the sofa cushions, she looked at the screen to see it was Xiaoyue calling. With a smile, Yu Dong answered the call: “Xiaoyue.”
“Dong Dong, are you back in Shanghai?” Xiang Xiaoyue’s voice sounded scared.
“I’m back.” Yu Dong noticed Xiaoyue’s distress and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Xinxin’s in labor.”
“What? Wasn’t she giving birth next month?” Otherwise, Yu Dong would have never left the city and Ren Xinxin.
“It’s all because of that scum man Lu, hurry and come to the City Hospital.”
When the call finished, Yu Dong found that Xiaoyue had already called her several times. The situation must be dire. Yu Dong ran back to her room and hurriedly dressed, before rushing out, driving to the City Hospital.
She ran all the way to the maternity rooms of the Obstetrics and Gynecology ward.
“Xiaoyue! How is Xinxin?” Yu Dong found Xiaoyue and ran to her.
“Dong Dong,” Xiang Xiaoyue grabbed Yu Dong’s hand and explained anxiously, “She’s been in the operation room for two hours.”
“What did the doctor say? ”“The doctor, the doctor hasn’t come out.” Xiaoyue was panicking, “What should we do? Xinxin’s in so much pain, I can hear her screams from here.”
“Giving birth is like this, don’t be so nervous.” Qin Yue couldn’t help but say this when he saw Xiaoyue looking like she was about to hyperventilate.
“This is all your fault. If you hadn’t dragged me to Suzhou last night, Xinxin wouldn’t be in this position.” Xiaoyue gave Qin Yue a fierce glare.
Qin Yue smiled wryly, Xiaoyue had already said this to him multiple times. He only hoped that Ren Xinxin would pull through, otherwise he’ll be looking forward to a miserable future.
Thinking this, Qin Yue couldn’t help but glare at Lu Xuan, who was also panicking nearby.
Yu Dong gave no mind to Xiaoyue and Qin Yue’s bickering, instead focusing on Lu Xuan. Thinking of what Xiaoyue told her over the phone, Yu Dong marched towards Lu Xuan and asked: “What the hell did you do? Why did Xinxin end up giving birth prematurely?”
“I came back from Suzhou his morning, and I felt a little worried about Xinxin so I went straight back to the apartment. As soon as I got to my door, I heard shouts inside.” Xiaoyue narrated the previous events herself, “When I came in, I saw Xinxin fall to the ground, shouting about a stomachache. I…I got scared and quickly brought her to the hospital.”
“It’s all because of him.” Xiaoyue viciously pointed to Lu Xuan.
Yu Dong looked at Lu Xuan, furious.
“I…I didn’t want this to happen either, I was just picking her up.” Thinking of Ren Xinxin’s accident, Lu Xuan was also flustered.
“Picking her up? To where? Xinxin has nothing to do with you. I told you that you weren’t allowed to appear in front of Xinxin ever again, otherwise…” Xiang Xiaoyue had been ready to beat him up since this morning.
Qin Yua quickly hugged her from behind, holding her back: “What are you doing? We’re in a hospital.”
“What does my daughter and my son-in-law’s relationship have to do with you?” A middle-aged woman who had been standing next to Lu Xuan suddenly spoke up.
Yu Dong knew this woman, she was Ren Xinxin’s mother. They had met several times in university.
“Auntie, Xinxin and Lu Xuan already broke up,” Xiaoyue said.“When did they break up? What’s more, Xinxin’s child is Lu Xuan’s.” Mother Ren angrily said, “Who are you calling a scum man?”
“Auntie!” Xiang Xiaoyue looked at Mother Ren incredulously.
“Auntie, Xinxin meeting with Lu Xuan today, does this have something to do with you?” Yu Dong knew that Ren Xinxin wouldn’t have let Lu Xuan in her apartment, so she speculated that her mother must have come with Lu Xuan.
“So what?” Mother Ren said, “She’s my daughter, heavily pregnant, so I came with Lu Xuan to take her home.”
“She’s your daughter, so why doesn’t she want to go home with you?” Yu Dong was usually rational, but she couldn’t help but raise her voice when she said this.
“I…” Mother Ren suddenly couldn’t say anything.
“Why didn’t you take her home on New Year’s Day? Why didn’t you pick her up when she was outside working with a big belly? Why did you blow her off when she took the initiative to go see you?” Yu Dong’s voice grew louder and louder with each question.
“Xinxin’s in premature labor, did you know? And you have the gall to stand here and protect your so-called son-in-law?” Yu Dong asked.
“You don’t have to worry yourself with our family matters.” Mother Ren said viciously.
“I have never heard of a mother that acts like you do. You still dare call yourself Xinxin’s mother?” Xiang Xiaoyue jumped in furiously.
“I raised her, how am I not her mother?” Mother Ren remained confident.
“You…” Xiaoyue was about to ignore her upbringing and scold an elder when the dilevry doors suddenly opened.
The doctor looked at the commotion and yelled: “Why is it so noisy?”
Everyone became silent at this. Xiaoyue and Yu Dong rushed to the doctor: “Doctor, how is our friend?”
The doctor looked at them and replied: “Giving birth is a difficult process that has to be planned well. Who are the family members?”
“I…I am the father of the child.” Lu Xuan said aloud.
“So what, Xinxin has nothing to do with you.” Xiang Xiaoyue rebutted before turning back to the doctor, “Doctor, I was the one that brought her in.”
The doctor glanced at her and asked: “Will you be the one to decide whether to keep the mother or the child if the operation fails?”“I…” Xiaoyue couldn’t say anything.
“I’ll sign the waiver.” Lu Xuan took the consent forms from the doctor and signed his name.
The doctor looked at the documents, saw that there were no issues with it, then went back into the delivery room. After a while, Ren Xinxin was pushed out and carted off to the operating room.
Everyone ran to the surgery doors, Xiaoyue’s hands shaking as she held onto Yu Dong for dear life: “Dong Dong, what do we do, the doctor just said…does that mean…”
Xiang Xiaoyue didn’t dare say the words.
“No, the doctor is just assuming.” Yu Dong was also extremely uneasy.
“What about Xia Feng? Go and make him ask.” Xiaoyue suddenly proposed.
“I called him, but his phone is off, he’s probably too busy.” On the way to the hospital, Yu Dong called Xia Feng. Unfortunately, his phone was off, so she could only send him a text.
No one knew Ren Xinxin’s condition. Xiaoyue wasn’t in the mood to kick the scum man, and Yu Dong was too anxious to talk.
Half an hour later, Xia Feng in his white coat rushed over.
“Xia Feng.” Yu Dong stood up.
“How’s Xinxin?” Xia Feng asked, worried.
“Still inside, we don’t know the situation.” Seeing Xia Feng, Yu Dong felt a little calmer.
“Don’t worry, the fact that the doctor didn’t say anything proves that there’s nothing to worry about.” Xia Feng reassured her, “I’ll go the nurse’s station and ask.”
“Un!” Yu Dong and Xiaoyue felt relieved at this.
Xia Feng left towards the maternity rooms, then soon came back with Xinxin’s file. Several people looked towards him as he read: “….Xinxin’s condition was stable and healthy, so when she fell down and hit her stomach it wasn’t too bad, but the child needs to be monitored after birth.”
“What does that mean?” Both Yu Dong and Xiang Xiaoyue urgently asked.
“No need to worry, we’ve already called a pediatrician for a consultation.” Xia Feng reassured the two women.
“It’s going to be fine, it’s definitely going to be OK.” Yu Dong kept chanting this.
Xiang Xiaoyue silently squeezed Yu Dong’s hand, the two friends encouraging each other.
“This is all just speculation, we won’t know until the child’s been born. They’re both stable right now, the baby won’t necessarily be in danger.” Xia Feng continued.
“Sit down first, the doctor is saying that it’s alright.” Qin Yue gently gathered Xiaoyue to him and sat her down.
“If anything happens to Xinxin I’m never seeing you ever again.” Xiaoyue couldn’t help but complain to Qin Yue.
Time passed, one second to the other. The wait didn’t actually take very long, but everyone felt that a century had passed before the doors opened again.
A nurse pushed a transparent incubator out, and several people immediately surrounded the box. The doctor soon came out and said: “It’s a healthy baby girl, no problems. The mother still needs some stitching, so she’ll be out a little later.”
“We’ll be taking the baby to the SCU first.” After saying this, the nurse continued on.
When Mother Ren heard that her daughter was alright, she blinked then followed the nurse to look after the baby.
“Doctor, thank you very much.” Xiang Xiaoyue excitedly grabbed the doctor’s hand and shook it vigorously.
“Yes, thank you!” Yu Dong also thanked her wholeheartedly.
The female doctor smiled and waited for Xiaoyue to let go of her hand before taking off her mask. Yu Dong discovered that the female doctor was very beautiful and quite young.
“There turned out to be such a beautiful doctor in this hospital.” Xiang Xiaoyue couldn’t help but praise.
“Thank you for the compliment.” The female doctor smiled before looking towards the crowd. Walking a few steps forward, she stood in front of Xia Feng and said in a soft voice: “Long time no see.”
“An An.” The look in Xia Feng’s eyes was somewhat complicated.
Yu Dong stood behind them, her eyes growing cold. As if standing across mountains and rivers, the pair facing each other looked like a couple who hadn’t seen the other for a long time.
Xia Feng raised his head and looked past the woman in front of him to Yu Dong. Their eyes met.
An An was puzzled at Xia Feng’s actions and turned around, her beautiful peach blossom eyes, looking at Yu Dong critically.
