It was already 8:30 by the time Fu Zhi arrived at the Li Household.
Secretary Liu was waiting for her outside.
The Li Household was one of the largest residences in Yu City. The moment they stepped into the living room, Secretary Liu shouted, “President Li, Ms. Fu is here!”
Fu Zhi looked in the direction he was looking at.
Li Nanli was sitting on the couch. Perhaps he had not slept enough, as he was still wrapped in a blanket. He was resting his head by his arm, and his deep dark sloe-like eyes were half-closed.
He was wearing a black shirt, and the sleeves had been rolled up neatly to his elbows. His skin was fair, and his slender fingers were toying with a piece of a leaf.
Blessed golden sunlight shone through the window, casting a golden halo around him.
When he heard the voice, he turned around. He lifted his eyes and said softly, “Zhizhi.”
Fu Zhi did not return the courtesy and got straight to the point. “Xiao Li. I’m here to check on your condition.”
Li Nanli was stumped, and the living room became awkwardly silent for a few seconds.
It took Li Nanli quite some time to come back to reality. When he pressed his lips, something popped up in his head, and his eyes glowed with extraordinary fervor. His smile vanished, and he got up from the couch. Then, he answered flatly, “Alright.”
Fu Zhi placed her bunny bag on the couch before sitting next to Li Nanli. Then, she stretched her arm and placed her fingers on his wrist.
She had had a cold drink on her way there, so her fingers were cold.
When her fingers touched Li Nanli’s skin, he felt as if something was prickling his heart and he subconsciously let out a moan, filling the living hall with his deep, suggestive voice.
Fu Zhi stopped and looked up. The man had a twinkle in his eyes, and a grin was playing around his lips.
He gulped and uttered her name softly. “Zhizhi.”
Fu Zhi retracted her hand and replied sternly, “I’m just feeling your pulse. Why are you groaning?”
‘Is he trying to blackmail me? I didn’t even hit him!’
Li Nanli did not say anything in return. He instead fell into a trance. He could feel his skin becoming hotter and hotter, and the tingling sensation was growing stronger with each passing second.
There were red rims around his misted eyes as he stared at Fu Zhi’s hand. His breathing had become hard and heavy, and Fu Zhi could feel his intense glare without looking up.
Her eyebrows were slightly furrowed as she leaned backward. She raised her head and gazed at Li Nanli as she said, “Your heart is pumping fast, and your pulse is abnormal. I can’t give you an accurate diagnosis like this. Are you not feeling well?”
“Yeah, I’m not feeling well.” Li Nanli cocked his head and looked straight into her eyes. “You hurt me just now.”
“…”
‘But I didn’t even use one-tenth of my strength…’
Fu Zhi was confused. “Did it really hurt?”
Li Nanli coughed once more. It took him quite a lot of effort to suppress the bolt of fire that raged inside of him. When he opened his mouth to speak again, his voice was hoarse. “Yeah. It hurt me a lot. Can you be a little gentler?”
“Alright. I’ll try my best then.”
Li Nanli quickly turned his head away, as he did not want her to notice the amusement and desire in his eyes.
As he had expected, Fu Zhi did not notice anything. Very gently, she placed her fingers on his wrist once more.
Li Nanli felt as if someone was tickling his heart with a plume, and his heart pumped even faster. The veins on his arm bulged. He grasped the blanket tightly, and the tips of his ears turned red.
“Could you be having a heart attack?” Upon saying that, Fu Zhi reached out for Li Nanli’s chest.
However, before her hand could touch his chest, Li Nanli grabbed her wrist. The tips of his ears had gotten even redder, and as soon as he opened his mouth, he began coughing violently.
Fu Zhi felt that something was wrong with him. She asked, “How do you feel right now?”
“I, I’m fine,” Li Nanli said, suppressing his urge to cough. Then, he added, emphasizing every syllable that escaped from his mouth, “As long as you stop touching me, I’ll be fine.”
Fu Zhi did not know what to say.
