Guevara’s pupils narrowed. He had never expected that Prader would be so decisive to do this, because magicians were usually cunning and shilly-shally. Although the fire ball wasn’t at a fast speed, it was still impossible for Guevara to break the fence and block it in such a short amount of time.
The golden light around Guevara turned even more dazzling. He then heavily punched the fence. The steel columns, which were as thick as a man’s arms, snapped into several sections like rotten wood. At this moment, the fireball was only several meters away from the Purifying Crystal.
Prader burst into a crazy laughter. Since you want me to die, let the cursed ones painfully die with me!
Just at this crucial moment, Han Jin waved his hand. A charm was thrown out as quick as lightning and passed through the fence, turning into a wooden giant and standing in front of the Purifying Crystal.
With a thunderous sound, the fireball hit the wooden giant. Flames spattered out in all directions, while the wooden giant turned into a huge mass of burning flame.
Upon seeing this, Prader’s eyes almost fell out of its sockets. His laughter suddenly stopped as if his throat had been squeezed tight.
Guevara had crossed the fence and was walking step by step toward him.
Prader quickly recovered from the shock. Looking at Guevara, he felt his heart hit rock bottom, and his hands and feet were all chilly.
No one could precisely describe how horrifying a Dragon Knight was. But Prader had personally made the steel column of the fence to the best of his ability, and he was sure of its capability. That was why it was also his last trump. As long as the fence could have delayed Guevara’s attack for a short moment, he would have taught Guevara a painful lesson.
But without much difficulty, the steel columns, which could not be cut off by sharp blades, were broken into sections due to Guevara’s punch. This time, he knew his life had come to an end. Perhaps everything had been doomed since Nuremberg.
Prader stood there with his face as pale as ashes. Guevara sneered. “Why? Aren’t you going to resist me ? Don’t worry, I won’t let you die so easily. Though I have never been an interrogator, I don’t mind practicing my skills on you.”
Prader opened his eyes wide in horror. He still remembered how he had tortured Guevara when he was in Nuremberg. The bloody scenes came to mind, one after another. It brought him brutal pleasure while he was torturing the others, but to be tortured by the same means meant endless nightmares. Thinking of it instantly made his blood run cold.
As Guevara slowly walked towards him, he stepped back in desperation and nearly fell down when he hit the chair beside him.
Guevara sneered. “Why are you such a coward now? You were so arrogant before this, weren’t you?”
Han Jin didn’t speak nor move. Though he would like to capture the magician of darkness as soon as possible instead of talking crap with him, he knew that Guevara needed to vent after being tortured for close to ten years! Venting didn’t mean weakness of one’s willpower. Instead, Guevara had been calm ever since he had been saved, which was enough to prove his strong willpower.
Prader was speechless although his inner heart was struggling. It was of no doubt that he had no chance to flee if he was to be caught by Guevara. His old tricks were totally useless in front of the Dragon Knight.
Prader had reached the wall. There was absolutely no other way for him to retreat any more.
He clenched his teeth and made a decision. He raised his arm and pressed against the wall. A huge hole suddenly appeared under his feet, and Prader jumped into it.
Guevara was shocked but immediately jumped into the hole without even giving it a second thought.
But Han Jin had noticed Prader’s eyes at the moment when Prader was falling down, and they were filled with desperation and determination to perish. He had a bad feeling about it and wanted to stop Guevara, but it was already too late; Guevara had already followed behind.
Sure enough, Prader’s crazy laughter came from the hole. “Ha ha! Die with me!”
Numerous streaks of hot flames ejected out from the hole, together with painful groans from Prader. Then, an earth-shattering sound followed. Even the walls of the palace shook, and tiny stones, as well as dust, fell down.
Han Jin quickly rushed over and released a charm of Rain, but it wasn’t of much help. Countless raindrops were only able to slightly abate the fire. Han Jin was shocked. What kind of fire was this?
Just when he was considering going down by using a charm of Earthmeld, a golden light soared up from the hole into the sky.
“Senior! Are you all right?” Han Jin finally felt relieved and walked forward.
Guevara looked wreched with his clothes burnt and ragged, and he had several blood stains left on his face.
“How could this tiny flame hurt me!” he angrily replied. “It’s really unexpected for this guy to kill himself! How lucky was I to have quickly dodged it.”
Kill himself? Cold sweats dropped down from Han Jin’s forehead. If he had jumped down just now, he would have been dead without the protection of Art of Faked Earth Corpse.
Guevara stood still and looked like he had lost something for a moment. He then picked up the Purifying Crystal on the altar table. “Let’s go. Hopefully, the curse hasn’t broken out yet.”
Han Jin followed and cast a glance at the large hole which was still spraying flames. A deeper understanding toward the Dragon Knight was forming deep in his heart.
Thunderous sounds of killing and crying filled Black Raven City. Zaganide had really become the spokesman of the Race of the Abyss. Inside the city, humans accounted for less than ten percent of the total population, and they were either old followers, family members of Zaganide’s, or just slaves. The remaining were all races of the abyss!
The streets were almost full of monsters – well at least for Han Jin they were considered monsters. These creatures with grotesque shapes were running all over the streets; some with the shape of humans, some like eggs, and some crawling while some were flying with one or more pairs of wings. All of this stimulated Han Jin’s nerves. Ronning had given the order to kill them all unless they surrendered. He had made the decision to commit a wholesale slaughter. The whole city was in chaos. Even Ronning himself could not control the soldiers of Riptide Regiment, let alone trying to talk to the races of the abyss about surrendering.
Han Jin and Guevara could not summon the soldiers either. They had to take the Purifying Crystal to the square in the center of the city and wait.
The battle lasted until late into the night when the city had almost become a mess with corpses lying everywhere, and nearly one-third of the urban area devoured by raging fires. This was how destructive a war was to a city! If the invader was Zaganide, the city would have fallen to debris.
Ronning moved his commanding department to the square. Reg, Sunier, and the others had all come. Reg’s face was sullen. He glanced at Ronning with cold eyes from time to time, and put forward objections several times, commanding Ronning to constrain the soldiers, while he, himself, ran here and there, trying to stop the slaughter. However, the soldiers had nearly lost their minds to killing, and only a few would listen to him. Plus, there was resistance indeed. Reg shouldn’t expect the soldiers to be beaten without any retaliation. This was also why Ronning had rejected Reg’s command. The conflict between them had only become deeper and deeper!
Any estrangement caused by different values was hard to remove. Ronning considered the army as a tool to fulfill his dream, while Reg considered it a legacy from his father. They both insisted on their own ways of ruling, and they both thought theirs was the right one.
Han Jin was helpless in this situation. He couldn’t judge who was right and who was wrong. They both had their reasons. Ronning was too stubborn; he had still wanted Han Jin to help him resolve the contradiction between him and Reg before they had started the invasion. However, now that he had directly acted against Reg, it had caused Reg to be extremely annoyed. No matter who acted as the peacemaker, he still would not be able to persuade Reg.
Thinking of this, Han Jin looked at Guevara, who he thought must be unwilling to see the conflict between the two leaders. But unexpectedly, Guevara seemed to be indifferent to this and kept talking with several magicians around him on how to use the Purifying Crystal.
Officers of all levels ran in and out with all kinds of reports, such as the treasure room they had found and the items they were checking, or the resistance they had encountered and the casualties they had suffered. Not only did Reg and Ronning have different values, but so did the officers and the soldiers. Though Ronning had given the order to kill all the enemies, some soldiers still brought captives to the square – though these were certainly the important ones. The nobodies of the races of the abyss were by no means able to enjoy such treatment.
Reg was busy soothing the captives to eliminate their fears, and sent guards to ensure their safety. He was trying to send them the message that the Riptide Regiment was an army of justice. However, in the city where blood was flowing like a river, no one knew whether the captives believed him or not.
All of them were busy, no matter if it were the killers or the ones to be killed. The battle finally came to end as the sun rose again, but Black Raven City had turned into a different place…
